MCUDP celebrated the commencement of construction for its newest development activity.
Groundbreaking ceremony of Ambathale stormwater pumping station was held at construction site on 25th January,2019 with participation of Hon. Partali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Megapolise & Western Development (MMWD), Hon. S.M.Marikkar, Member of Parliament in Colombo District, Eng. Nihal Rupasingha, Secretary to the MMWD and Eng. Mrs. H.A Thushari, Project Director of MCUDP and crowd of invitees from key stakeholders of the MCUDP .
Ambathale stormwater pumping station will minimize the flood in Thalangama, Awariheena and Malambe east drainage basin. It will pump out flood water during periods of high water levels in Kelani River and high rainfall in the upstream areas of Madiwela East Diversion Canal.
Total investment made by Government of Sri Lanka together with World Bank for the pumping station is Rs. 2,870 million. The construction work, which is handled by Salcon Engineering Berhad of Malaysia, and managed and supervised by SAFEGE of France, is expected to be completed within a 21-month period.
This construction project is implemented by Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation under the MCUDP.
